About this blog

My eldest son, Paul, and his wife, Linda, gave me a lovely book for my 72nd birthday, called “Dear grandad – from you to me – a journal of a lifetime”.  It’s a terrific idea.  Each page has a heading (like “What are your earliest memories”), but the rest of the page is blank.  The idea is that grandad describes his early life to help his grandchildren know more about him as a younger person, but also to learn more about the times that grandad lived in.

Now, I’m a reasonably modern grandad, so I thought I’d give my answers in this blog (it’ll give me a bit more space, and I’ve got an awful lot to say).  So, to all my grandchildren and great nieces and great nephews, read on if you want to know a bit about Grandad Dale’s early life and times.  Just click a year and off you go into the past…

Enjoyed your blog about the Maungatoroto store. Alan McMahon of the electrical shop was my father in law.
